Jailbreaking Your Phone: The Why and Why Not?

If you have an iPhone and you are looking for features or programs that are not available, there is a simple answer. Jailbreaking your phone will allow you to use those programs and features. This process works on any device that runs an iOS operating system.

Jailbreaking your phone is easy to do. You can dowload a jailbreaking program on your PC and plug your phone in. The process is reversible too and it is considered perfectly legal in the US. You will be able to do alot more with your phone like dowloading videos, chatting, emailing, etc. You will also have the ultimate Wi-Fi connection.

Turning your phone into a Superphone sounds appealing, right? Before you decide to jailbreak your phone, there are some things you should be aware of. Nothing great comes without a price. Most cell phone companies allow you so much bandwidth usage per month and your jailbroken phone will quickly go way beyond the limit. You will be charged for this and you can look forward to a pontentially high bill.

Also, increased Internet capabilities can prompt security threats and your phone could be flooded with malware in a matter of minutes. Do keep in mind that if you tamper with your phone at all, the warranty on it is gone forever. You also run the risk of overtampering which can ultimately shut down your phone, this process is called “bricking”, and you actually have to restore your phone to it’s factory settings before it will work again.

You have to weigh the pros and cons here. Is it worth both the risk and the hassle to majorly “update” your phone? You could give jailbreaking a trial run for a month or so and see what happens. If you find that you run into more problems than you are prepared to deal with, you can always reverse the process and just have a standard phone again.
